16mm film provided by Bob Word via Annette Bradford and The Jackson County Historical Association (JCHA).
Originally shot around 1941, this film was transferred to low resolution video by Mr. Cactus Gay decades ago. Since then, digitizing technology has advanced to better capture the full resolution. Unfortunately, the film has also greatly degraded over this time and was almost lost. Thanks to Bradley Reeves of Knoxville, TN it was painstakingly revived and digitized in 2019. Much of the film shows the ravages of aging film stock.
Aspiring filmmaker Lloyd Royal of Meridian, MS made this film about life in Scottsboro around 1941. He later made “Bandits of the Natchez Trace” and “Jessie James’ Women”. Royal shot parts of those technicolor productions along the Natchez Trace and in and around the town of Enterprise.
